Bars and Nightlife in Townsville: Where to Go After Dark
Townsville's bar and nightlife scene is anchored by the Flinders Street East precinct in the CBD, which has the highest concentration of bars, live music venues and late-night dining in the city. The Flinders Street East strip has a mix of sports bars, cocktail lounges and live music pubs that operate most nights of the week. The Strand waterfront area has waterfront bars popular with the North Ward community. Palmer Street in South Townsville has a restaurant and bar strip that is particularly active on Friday and Saturday evenings. The Palmer Street corridor has developed a reputation for quality cocktail bars alongside its restaurant offering. Several craft beer bars have opened in the city, reflecting a national trend well received in Townsville's younger demographic. The Dry season (May to October) sees the most active outdoor bar culture; the Wet season drives patrons toward air-conditioned venues. The city's connection to the Defence community means mid-week trade is stronger than in comparable regional cities.
