Townsville Enterprise announced this week that three local startups will release new software products by December 2026, including an AI-driven traffic management system and a cybersecurity platform tailored for regional businesses.

The announcements arrive as federal regulators push autonomous vehicle makers to improve coordination with emergency services, a shift that opens doors for Townsville firms already testing similar sensors on local roads. City leaders see the timing as critical because state funding applications close next month and national tech grants now prioritize practical deployments over prototypes.

Developers working out of offices on Flinders Street East have partnered with James Cook University’s innovation lab to refine the traffic tool, while a second group based near The Strand waterfront focuses on anti-spam features for small operators. Both sites host weekly review sessions with Townsville City Council staff to align product features with local infrastructure needs.

Local Partnerships Drive Innovation

One project draws on data from 12,400 connected vehicles recorded at the Ross River Road intersection since January. The figures show peak-hour delays averaging 14 minutes, a benchmark the new software aims to cut by half once installed at four additional sites along University Drive. Pricing for the platform starts at $18,000 per intersection for the first year, with maintenance covered through 2028.

Timeline and Next Steps for Businesses

Interested companies can register for a closed beta through the Townsville Enterprise portal before 15 August. Early adopters will receive on-site training sessions at the council’s smart city command centre on Sturt Street. Updates on further releases, including a Lovable-backed analytics dashboard, will appear in quarterly reports issued by the same office.
