Townsville locals heading to the city's waterfront lifestyle spots this winter face new entry fees and transport changes starting this month.

Entry fees at the Strand Park markets rose to $8 per adult from July 1, with families now paying $25 for a full day pass that covers parking at the adjacent Ross River lot.
The increase coincides with the launch of extended winter hours at several Townsville venues, which run through September. Council records show 18,400 visitors passed through the markets in the first week of July, up from 12,600 the same period last year.
Local access points and transport options
Two main entry points serve the markets: the primary gate on The Strand near the Rockpool cafe and a secondary access from Palmer Street beside the Townsville Bulletin building. The Townsville City Council runs a free shuttle from the Flinders Street bus interchange every 20 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays between 9am and 4pm.
Drivers can also use metered parking along Eyre Street, where rates start at $2.50 for the first hour. Magnetic Island ferries departing from the Breakwater terminal offer combined market-and-island day passes for $47, a package introduced this season by SeaLink.
Prices and practical checks before you set out
Current data from the council lists average spend at $14 on food and drink per person inside the markets, with cashless payment required at all 42 stalls. The nearby Riverway Arts Centre charges an extra $6 for timed entry to its winter exhibition, open until 5pm daily.
Check the council website the night before for any weather-related gate closures, as the Strand section between Dean Street and Kissing Point can be restricted during strong winds. Arrive before 10am on weekends to secure shaded seating near the main stage.
