Townsville opens its July cultural slate this week with new exhibitions at two city venues and extended evening hours along the waterfront promenade.
The timing follows the end of the wet season and aligns with school holidays that bring families into the city centre each weekend.
Waterfront and street circuits
Start at The Strand between Kissing Point and the Rockpool, where nightly markets run from 5pm on Thursdays and Saturdays through the end of the month. Continue two blocks inland to Flinders Street Mall for the free heritage walking tour that departs from the old post office building each Sunday at 10am. Both routes pass the Townsville Bulletin Square pop-up stage, which hosts acoustic sets from 6pm on Fridays.
Gallery and performance stops
The Perc Tucker Regional Gallery on Flinders Street displays a new collection of local photography until 28 July, open daily except Mondays. Two blocks away at the Townsville Civic Theatre on Boundary Street, the Queensland Ballet regional season opens 18 July with three evening shows priced from $45. Reef HQ Aquarium on Flinders Street East adds a night-diver session on 22 July limited to 40 tickets at $28 each.
Visitor data released by Townsville City Council last month recorded 48,000 entries across these three sites in June, up 12 per cent from the same period in 2025. Advance bookings for the ballet and night dive close 48 hours before each event.
